HR leaders your time is now, by Mike Beesley

The world of human resources and the people within it have always been a great source of inspiration for me in my own professional life. Over the past 40+ years creating recruitment solutions I have had the pleasure of working alongside some of the best in the business.

And, of course, as business works hard to understand and adapt to the specific set of circumstances the pandemic has produced, the workplace is changing and developing in ways we could not have expected at the beginning of 2020.

There is no doubt in my mind that HR leaders are now in a unique situation, one that is immediate and vital but also requiring a true long-term vision for the future of work.

It is prescient that HR had already achieved so much around diversity and inclusion, remote working and mental health within UK Plc, but the arrival of COVID-19 has moved the dial on all these elements faster than we could have in normal circumstances.

So, HR has stepped up and truly taken the reins, demonstrating how people strategies are best practice and that clear thinking and humane responses to employee’s needs have to be centre stage.

This has been also during a period of economic turmoil where tough decisions need to be made and the impact of this cannot be underestimated. It is even potentially unknown at this juncture.

But it is for these reasons, and a multitude more, that all of us at TIMESTWO are delighted to be launching Maru HR with Hannah Waddington. I have known Hannah for some time, and she is the perfect recruitment entrepreneur to take on the task of building an HR search business that is truly fit for purpose.

It’s been a long-held ambition to create a different type of search business in this space, one that will partner with our networking platform The HR World and that seeks to make a real difference to the lives of HR leaders across the UK.

There has never been a more important time than now for us to bring together all our experience, ideas and enthusiasm to ensure we can make a healthier, more productive working world for future generations.

We have learned this year that we are much stronger together than we are apart, and I look forward to Hannah and Maru HR helping leadership steady the ship and set a new course into this brave new world.
